Admired For Its Long Bridge

About 7 kms from Mapusa in the Bardez Taluka of North Goa lies the lovely Village named Siolim. It is located around the famous Chapora River. The little village is popular for its Siolim bridge and the heritage hotel called "Siolim House".

It is believed that earlier there were many lions in this place and hence the name originated from two Konkani words "Xinv" meaning lion and "Halli" meaning a village. The people of Siolim are known as Siolcars. The village has produced some of the finest musicians, sportsman and bishops of Goa.

St. Anthony of Padua is a well known church located in Siolim. A number of parish chapels also exist here such as the chapel at Gaunsavaddo (Mae de Deus), Marna (St. Sebastian), Portavaddo and Tarchi Bhatt . Temples like Shri Datta Mandir and Sateri Temple are ideal tourist spots. Wednesday market at the old Ferry Terminal is worth a visit. One must not forget the heritage hotel called "Siolim House" which is popular among tourists. Most North Goa beaches are within short driving distance from the village.

But above all the Siolim Bridge is the most popular tourist puller of the village. The bridge is a landmark here and is a great place from where one can enjoy some scenic sunset views.
