Write Up On Geography Of The State

Goa is a tiny state located on the west of India. It is situated on the western coast called the Konkan coastal belt. The states of Maharashtra borders Goa on the north and Karnataka on the south and east.

Goa is a land of beaches and mesmerizing beauty. The credit for its attractiveness goes to its 105 km long coastlines along the Arabian Sea. Other than the proximity to the sea, several rivers like Terekhol (Tiracol), Mandovi, Zuari, Chapora, Sal and Talpona flow through Goa. The rivers and sea prove to be great treasures of seafood like prawns, mackerels, sardines, crabs and lobsters. All these seafood along with the spices grown in Goa form a major part of the lip smacking Goan cuisine. Other than being source of food the waters are also used for transporting the minerals and ores to and fro the state.

Other than the water bodies, the Sahyadri mountain range fringes Goa. Thus making Goa more pretty and an irresistible holiday making destination. History proves that many Hindu, Muslim as well the Portuguese rulers were in love with Goa for its beauty and the strategic location.

Panaji or Panajim is the capital of Goa. Vasco-da-Gama, Margao, Mapusa and Ponda are some of its major towns. All these are studded with many historic marvels like churches, forts and silvery beaches. The beauty of Goa attracts tourists from all over the globe.

Being close to the sea, the climate in Goa is pleasant and humid all round the year. Except for the peak summer months of April and may, Goa can be visited at any time of the year.
